Yubico Security Key NFC

What it is

This is the more basic key in Yubico's range. It covers FIDO2, WebAuthn and passkeys over USB-A or NFC, but not the wider set of protocols found on the YubiKey 5 NFC. For most personal accounts that is enough; for some workplace systems it is not. If you are unsure which you need, check what your employer or password manager requires before choosing between the two.

Why HOS selected it

It is the lower-cost route into hardware-backed sign-in for people whose needs are personal rather than corporate.

Who it is for

Individuals adding a hardware key to personal accounts that support passkeys or FIDO sign-in.

What it will not do

It supports fewer protocols than the YubiKey 5 NFC and works only where a service supports security keys. It does not protect accounts that still allow weaker fallbacks.

• Confirm whether you need the wider protocol support of the YubiKey 5 NFC
• Check your important services list security keys as an option
• A second key or stored recovery codes prevents lock-out
