Raycast
Raycast is a keyboard-driven launcher and command palette for macOS. It opens apps, searches files, manages windows, runs snippets, and adds thousands of extensions from one keyboard shortcut.

Overview
Raycast is a keyboard-driven launcher and command palette for macOS. Pressing one shortcut opens a single search bar that can open applications, jump into files, switch browser tabs, manage windows, expand text snippets, run a calculator, and paste from clipboard history without touching the mouse.
The free plan covers the launcher core: app launch, file search, calculator and unit conversion, clipboard history, window management, snippets, and quick links. On top of that, a large community extension library lets the same command bar drive project managers, calendars, note apps, developer tools, and other everyday services from the keyboard.
Two things sit outside this page. Any AI-assisted feature - AI Chat, AI Commands, cloud sync, and team sharing - is part of the paid Pro tier and is reviewed on Raycast AI, not here. This page evaluates Raycast strictly as a launcher and command palette.
Raycast is macOS only, and the keyboard-first model has a real learning curve for users used to Dock, Spotlight, and mouse-driven window management. Once that curve is over, it replaces several small point tools with a single keyboard action.
Best for
macOS users who want to replace mouse-driven app switching, file search, and window management with a single keyboard-first command palette.
Mac users who spend most of the day on keyboard: developers, writers, designers, researchers, and knowledge workers who want faster navigation and less menu digging.
Helps with: Launching applications, searching files and browser tabs, managing windows, running snippets and quick calculations, and extending workflows with a large community extension library. AI features are covered separately on Raycast AI.
Not ideal for
Raycast is macOS only. Some AI, cloud sync, and team-sharing features require the paid Pro plan, which is reviewed separately on Raycast AI. There is a learning curve for users new to keyboard-first workflows.
